Symptoms of the disease includes regurgitation of the food in stomach, acidity and heartburn, dysphasia, pain in chest which gradually increases after eating the meal and spreads in the neck, back and arms. The patients experiences severe coughing when they lie down. Loss of weight and stomach disorders is common.
The symptoms of the disease are very common with other diseases and that leads the doctors to misdiagnosis. Endoscope shows a clear picture of esophagus. Doctors might prescribe for a CT scan to be sure.
If a person is suffering from the disease, he or she should not take it lightly. The disease might lead to esophageal cancer and GERD (Gastro esophageal reflux disease). Treatment can cure the patient and provide permanent relief, however if diagnosed at the later stage it might become complicated.
There are Intra-sphincteric injections are available in the market, which are popularly called botox are used for paralyzing the cardia and preventing the spasms. In most of the patients the symptoms returns within a year. In present days the doctors are mostly relying on the nitroglycerin and nifedipine for the treatment of Achalasia.
